An Eternal Feast of Glory
Fellowship Reformed Church (PCA) in Mount Pleasant again welcomed Pastor Nick Setterington to provide pulpit supply on Sunday evening. Pastor Nick is on staff with University Reformed Church in East Lansing, MI. Pastor Nick preached a sermon from Proverbs 15:15-17 titled “An Eternal Feast of Glory.”
And through the text, Pastor Nick emphasized that our happiness and contentment of a person isn’t ultimately dependent on our material circumstances. Instead, Pastor Nick emphasized the importance of being in possession of a “good heart.” Beyond this, by referring to 2 Corinthians 4, Pastor Nick explained how gaining a good heart is possible. Through faith in Christ, the glory of God is made to shine into us and from us. Those who, by faith, “feast” on Christ have perpetual abundance. Those who attempt to feast upon the temporal goods of earth to find their blessedness and happiness will find themselves dissatisfied.
So the condition of our hearts is the matter of the utmost importance when it comes to determining our contentment. And in light of this at the end of the sermon, Pastor Nick asked the congregation to reflect on the condition of their hearts. Where do we go when we’re trying to make ourselves content and satisfied? Are we looking to feast on Christ? Or are we still believing that the feast that our souls need will come from indulging ourselves on earthly goods? The book of Proverbs urges us to seek after that which will truly and fully satisfied. And in this way, Proverbs anticipates Christ, and directs us to feast on him, and his glory. Through faith ,we can have a good heart, which is made forever happy by Jesus.
Do you have a content heart? Have you found happiness that lasts? Let the words of the Bible direct you to contentment in Christ.
