From Where Comes Your Glory?

Preacher:
Passage: Proverbs 27:1-2
Service Type:

For our Sunday afternoon service, Rev. Greg B preached from Proverbs 27, verses 1 and 2. He explained how the text relates to boasting, pride, and glory, and how the text also drew our attention to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

He noted in the passage, how people naturally long for a sense of worth and importance. We try to extract some sense of glory and significance from our accomplishments, our self-regard, or from the words of other people. Even self-deprecating humor or comments can be ways that we try to draw out words of praise from other people.

Boasting and pride isn’t just worthless. But it’s actually destructive for our soul. It takes us the wrong way. And we were encouraged, though, to seek glory, not by producing it ourselves or seeking to find it in created things, but by seeking to be associated with God, through faith in Christ.
