Longing for Something More
Despite the proliferation of smart phones, social media, and dating apps, people have never felt more isolated. Though more people are able to know us through our profile pictures and newsfeed than ever before, we just can’t shake the feeling that very few people actually know us. And with a recent pandemic and widespread societal polarization, we live in a world where it’s difficult to have relationships that feel safe. People are looking for real relationships – for fellowship that is both genuine and substantial.
Double Isolation
Our biggest problem, though, isn’t simply the brokenness of our relationships with each other. The disarray of our human interactions are all symptoms of a deeper problem. The underlying issue is our isolation from God. We fear to be known by God and to be known by other people – we sometimes even fear to know ourselves! – because in reality we’re not the people we’d like to be. We don’t want people to judge us, or to shame us, or to reject us. And we don’t want God to, either.
People have tried many different methods to silence their consciences and to alleviate their pain. But as it turns out, the job is too big for us. We’re incapable of being good enough or reaching high enough to bring ourselves back into alignment with God.
Brought into Fellowship
The amazing thing, though, is that God came down. He paid the cost that was needed to cancel our cosmic criminal record. And through God’s work, we’re invited into fellowship with him and into right relationships with the people around us. After Jesus Christ lived among us, died at the cross, and rose from the dead, one of his closest friends wrote, “that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).
This is the fellowship we want you to experience in our midst. Here at Fellowship Reformed Church, we experience warm comradery with friends and neighbors that we’re sure you’ll be impacted by. But, more importantly, in our midst you’ll also find a profound experience of God’s peace and love that come through faith in Jesus Christ.
This is why we’re named Fellowship Reformed Church.
