A Prayer for Our Schools, Churches, Workers, and Neighbors Around Mount Pleasant, Michigan
O Father,
You are a God merciful and gracious
Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love,
Both generous in forgiveness
And faithful to justice. (Exod 34:6-7)
All your ways are light
And in you there is no darkness (1 John 1:5).
Display your goodness, we pray,
For all in Mid Michigan to see.
Surely you know how to give good gifts;
You know better than we do (Matt 7:11),
So we commit ourselves to prayer
And we seek your mercy for our city,
Knowing your worth (Ps 16:2),
Honoring your word (Phil 4:6, 1 Thess 5:17),
Trusting in your work (Ps 127:1, Phil 2:13).
May you be gracious to us
And bless us
And make your face to shine upon us
That your ways may be known on earth
Beginning in our community
And extending to all nations (Psalm 67:1-2)
We pray for Mount Pleasant –
Our neighbors and households
For the welfare and lives of children
And the wisdom and love of parents
For reverent joy among the unmarried
And real loyalty among those wedded
For the elderly to be respected
And for widows to be remembered.
May family bonds deepen and sweeten,
Advancing our satisfaction,
And strengthening our society.
We pray for educators in Mount Pleasant,
For Mount Pleasant Schools and Sacred Heart
And those teaching children at home,
To promote sound knowledge and growth,
For Central Michigan University to thrive,
For Mid Michigan College to flourish,
For the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College as well,
That they would improve the lives of students,
Attracting many students,
Instructing for professional competence,
And equipping with personal character.
We pray for those in public office,
That you would show public kindness,
Upholding our leaders in wisdom and integrity,
So that our region may be upheld.
Guide our representatives on steady paths,
And guard us all from unseen dangers
May justice and order prevail
Securing peace and plenty for our daily needs.
We pray for local businesses
For the suitability of their products
And the stability of their profits
For ethical decisions
For economic development
For employment day after day
So that productivity and prosperity may progress
For the good of Mount Pleasant
And the benefit of Central Michigan
We pray for emergency workers –
For reduction of crime,
For recovery from illness,
For rescue from danger –
That hospitals and clinics
Law enforcement and fire stations
Would continue to serve Mount Pleasant
With conviction and compassion
Securing a better society for all.
We pray for churches in Mount Pleasant,
That the gospel would be proclaimed,
That those spiritually dead
Would hear Jesus’ voice and rise again,
No longer within a grave,
No longer, with sin, a slave,
But saved through faith in Christ
Saved by the grace of Christ
Saved to a life with Christ (Eph 2:1-10).
As a church in Mount Pleasant, help us:
To be faithful to Scripture,
To be fervent in prayer,
To be fruitful in love and mercy.
May our families, schools, and businesses,
Our government and our churches,
Know the sunshine of your favor
And see your intervening benevolence
For our enduring good
