A Suggested Prayer in Times in Prosperity
O Father,
The daylight of your kindness has shown upon me,
You have permitted no cloud to obscure your grace
Have granted no nightfall to darken your face
You have made my paths level and straight
Have paved them with joy and prosperity
Have marked them with signposts of hope and peace
Have cleared them of injurious hindrances
No vines to ensnare my feet and inhibit my progress
No brambles to scratch at my legs to discourage my race
No fallen trees to block my road with dread and despair
Your Word has been a light for my path
And a lamp for my feet (Psalm 119:105)
You have made the storms of life give way to stillness
At your voice, the waves of the sea have been hushed
And you have brought me to my desired haven
I thank you, Lord, for your steadfast love
Your works to the children of man are wondrous! (Psalm 107:29-31)
Please do not cease to shower me with heaven’s grace
In your attentive mercy, bring lasting abundance.
But the abundance I seek is not wealth or possessions
Earthly riches will rot, and garments will be moth-eaten
Gold and silver will corrode; they bring no lasting fullness
Luxury and self-indulgence is not prosperity (James 5:1-5)
It is a vanity of vanities – emptiness, and striving after the wind
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money (Ecc. 5:10)
The earthly treasures I amass will not remain mine,
But will be passed to another when I die. (Ecc. 2:20-21)
You alone, Lord, supply the fullness I seek.
In your presence alone will I find fullness of joy
At your right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11)
Forgive me, Lord, for I have boasted in earthly prosperity
I have claimed to have all I need in myself
When I am wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked (Rev. 3:17)
When my righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6)
When my greatest achievements are but loss and rubbish
Compared to knowing Christ
By faith gaining him
Being found in him
Having in him the righteousness from God
And the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:8-11)
I have no happiness and blessedness apart from you.
But in Christ every good thing is eternally reserved for me
Because in Christ you have reserved me for yourself
Detach the cravings of my heart from created things
And make my heart prosperous in love and loyalty toward You
May I be a true child of your kingdom
Cherishing the king
And championing his ways
Make me discontent with the rival attractions of earth
And grant me contentment to walk by faith in your promises
Until the weak eyes of my flesh are put to rest
And the renewed eyes of my resurrection behold your glory
For now I see in a mirror dimly, but then will see face to face. (1 Cor. 13:12)
Lord, be my blessedness and prosperity forever.
I ask for nothing less
I could ask for nothing more.
