Even the greatest kings and armies of the earth are just small specks of nothing compared to God.
Following Jesus means we need to follow His Word – not our opinions or our emotions.
Living by false standards of cleanness won’t make us clean.
But Jesus crossed the great gulf from the Holy land of heaven, and he landed his boat in the defiled regions of the earth – because in mercy, he loved us.
And the aim of our work, on Jesus’s behalf, is to advance this love – to promote the influence of Christ’s love, both in ourselves, and in the people around us.
It’s not as though the idea of love existed eternally, and then God came across it at some point and learned to love. No, love has its definition and existence in God. Love exists, because God exists.
God’s word is calling us to contend for the faith today, so that his truth will be carried along into tomorrow.
